-- Little known fact: The first United States patent for a waffle iron was issued to Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York on August 24, 1869. The heart-shaped waffle iron is the most common in Sweden, but it didn't come into existence until the 19th century. However, Swedes have been creating waffles over a fire with a waffle iron since the 17th century.
