National Moon Walk Day/Moon Day (Lunar Landing in 1969)
-- When the Apollo 11 spacecraft launched July 16, 1969, it was televised around the country — including in Alaska, which had never received television coverage of a live news event before. When Neil Armstrong stepped down onto the moon's surface on July 20, 1969, saying, That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, every nation on earth seemed to take a collective sigh of relief. In 1971, President Richard Nixon proclaimed National Moon Landing Day on July 20 to commemorate the anniversary of man’s first moon landing.

-- Apollo 11 was the spaceflight which landed the first humans, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin, Jr, on Earth's Moon on July 20, 1969, at 20:17:39 UTC. The United States mission is considered the major accomplishment in the history of space exploration. Launched from the Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39 in Merritt Island, Florida on July 16, Apollo 11 was the fifth manned mission, and the third lunar mission, of NASA's Apollo program. The crew consisted of Armstrong as Commander and Aldrin as Lunar Module Pilot, with Command Module Pilot Michael Collins. Armstrong and Aldrin landed in the Sea of Tranquility and became the first humans to walk on the Moon on July 21st.

Apollo 3D Metal Model Kit
-- The Apollo 11 moon landing required two spacecraft - The lunar module (LM) and command service module (CSM). Once in lunar orbit, the two would separate so the LM could land while the CSM waited in orbit. After launching from the lunar surface, the LM's ascent stage would rendezvous and dock with the waiting CSM, then the astronauts would transfer back into the main spacecraft and head home. It sounds nearly impossible but that's the way it was July 20, 1969.

I was trying to click for the moon landing newspaper printable, but it seems that link belongs to a Chinese pharmaceutical company. I'm still interested in this printable if this gets fixed. The other printables and activities are so cute though!
