Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. It is colorless, odorless and tasteless, and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after cigarette smoking, according to a news release.
If exposed to 4 pCi/L of radon over a lifetime, 7 per 1,000 of those who never smoked would develop lung cancer versus 62 per 1,000 smokers.
The only way to know the level of radon inside your home is to test for it, so the U.S. Surgeon General and the American Lung Association recommend that all homes be tested for radon.
All you need to do is ask your local authorities for a free radon test kit - usually at the state and county levels and sometimes your city or town. A good place to start is your county health department.

QUICK FREEBIE TIP:
Be cautious about where you give out your personal information. Don't provide any more information than you are comfortable with. Personally, I never give out my exact date of birth (you can change the month or date) or telephone number. (555 is a handy area code) Some go as far as getting a P.O. Box for their freebies.
