Get Rewarded for 'Checking in' to TV Shows (US)
How would you like to get paid for watching TV??
The latest in rewards-based marketing, Viggle is a loyalty program that rewards TV viewers for sharing what they’re watching with their social networks. You just have to “check in” to specific shows to earn points, and you’ll get gift cards to brands like Best Buy and Starbucks for doing so.
Currently, there are over 100 channels featuring live, recorded and online TV shows that viewers can watch to earn points. You just download Viggle for your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and then check in to let your friends know exactly what you’re watching.
In return, you earn points to redeem things like movie tickets and gift cards!
"Think of 1,000 points being a dollar as just a benchmark -- a benchmark that's not precise, but if a thousand points is a dollar, a $5 gift card might normally be 5,000 points," Stephenson said. Viewers could accumulate a "couple of hundred points in a night."
Brands that have already agreed to participate in the Viggle loyalty program include Burger King, Starbucks, Sephora, Best Buy and Fandango. What’s more, users get access to behind-the-scenes content, exclusive footage and other special bonus offers.
The free app will soon be available in the United States for download through the iTunes App Store for all iPhone , iPad and iPod-touch users. For now, people can sign up with an email address to "request an invitation" to Viggle. Viggle says tailored versions for iPad, Android and the Web will follow shortly.
